About
Jiwon Lee
I was born in the most populated and urban city in South Korea, surrounded by a built-up industry growing with mainstream development. The inner-city is conscious of trends which ingrained in me to be inclusive with diverse aspects and be flexible to the rapid changes. However, getting an education in a dormitory school distant from the city set me to respect the natural world and admire technologies that made modern life in the wilderness feasible.
I established a balance between Earth-centric and human-centric ideals to produce straightforward goods that entertain and assist customers without affecting the earth. I also try to design something people can form enduring attachments to. My ultimate goal is to inspire people to be excited about the future while using collaborative design to save the planet.
My passion has always been towards making. I developed my attention to detail in the pottery workshop I have visited since childhood. I experiment with concepts using CAD, model-making, and quick sketches. I use a variety of skill sets, from pen and paper to sophisticated tools like SolidWorks and Fusion360, to conceptualize and create my thoughts. I identify problems, conduct user research, analyze historical data, then iterate endlessly to build answers. Additionally, I'm beginning to delve into the domains of co-authorship based on biology and bio-design.
Still, more than just concept and materiality go into producing truly sustainable goods. Analyzing the potential effects of each step in my design process, from visualization to end of life, is an essential component. I consider every stakeholder, including miners, recyclers, farmers, manufacturers, waste sorters, and local communities, to create beneficial social and environmental impacts.
